The Benefits of Laser Hair Removal Over IPL

Learn Why Laser Hair Removal Is Best for Removing Hair Permanently

Many people are uncertain which treatment they should use—laser hair removal or IPL. To clear up questions about the issue, allow us to explain why we offer laser hair removal, and don’t offer IPL as a hair removal option at all.

First, what exactly is laser hair removal and IPL?

A hair removal laser is a device made specifically for the purpose of eliminating hair.

It is very powerful and utilizes a real laser of a single wavelength – the type that is most potent to kill hair follicles beneath the skin.

IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light and is not a laser – it is similar to a strong camera flash, producing many wavelengths of light all at one time. Only a tiny portion of the light produced may have an effect on the hair follicle and be powerful enough to reach the proper depth under the surface of the skin.

So, if you’ve paid for and had multiple hair removal treatments and haven’t seen good results you’ve probably been treated with IPL or something similar – rather than a real hair removal laser.

Laser Hair Removal Offers Permanent Results

Laser Hair Removal RenoDuring laser hair removal, beams of highly concentrated light are directed at the follicles, destroying each hair at the root. As hair grows in cycles, it takes several sessions to target all the hairs, but the results are long-lasting. Laser hair removal can also be used on specific areas without affecting the surrounding skin.

IPL, on the other hand, uses a broad spectrum of light to remove hair, rather than a single focused beam, like laser hair removal. As a result, only a small percentage of light energy is absorbed by the hair follicle, reducing and slowing hair growth but not eliminating it completely.

More People Can Be Treated with Laser Hair Removal

Quite simply, IPL doesn’t work well for everyone. In particular, it’s recommended for people with fair skin and dark hair.

Naturally, that eliminates a vast number of people from being good IPL candidates.

By contrast, laser hair removal can be used to treat a variety of skin tones. Today, there are different lasers that can be used to zero in on the hair follicle, rather than the skin’s surface, allowing a broader range of skin tones and hair colors to be treated safely.

Laser Hair Removal Requires Less Treatments

While IPL can treat a larger area at once, treatment is simply more effective with laser hair removal. For instance, with IPL, you’ll need about 6-12 treatment sessions for hair removal. And as we explained earlier, that hair removal isn’t permanent. Hair growth is merely reduced.

Laser hair removal is much faster. It usually requires 6 sessions, and the results last – both long-term and in between sessions.

As you can see, for hair removal, laser hair removal is the clear winner.
