A Guide to Taking Care of Your Face
Women have a love/hate relationship with makeup. On the one hand, experimenting with new products, new colors, and new application techniques, can be fun and creative. For many women, it’s an art form. On the other hand, makeup is expensive, they never have the right shade, and there’s always a little voice in the back of your head wondering,
“Did it smudge just now?” “Did I put too much on?”
The reasons women wear makeup are numerous, but for many, it’s often to cover up or smooth out skin texture and tone, reduce the appearance of fine lines, or to contour features we find undesirable or unattractive. This isn’t a new trend, either. Ancient Egyptians covered their eyes in various metals like copper, lead, and manganese. The Greeks and Romans lathered white lead on their faces to conceal blemishes. And Victorian women, well, they had it rough. They used rice powders and zinc oxide to hide redness, used arsenic wafers to get rid of freckles, and washed their faces in ammonia every morning to get a clean, smooth texture.
The quest for smooth skin has gone through many changes over the years.
Now trends like #wokeuplikethis and #nofilter have turned women away from using too many cosmetics, which has led to interest in alternative ways to get even complexions and fresh-looking skin. Thankfully, our understanding of science has found safe, effective ways to achieve the perfect face, without the need for mercury and lead eyeshadow.
What Else is There?
Many women are choosing to take care of their skin so they can go makeup-free in public. Instead of buying costly foundations and cover ups, women are getting chemical and silk peels each month. These treatments tackle skincare issues head on, through a combination of exfoliation and regeneration. Silk Peel, for example, gently exfoliates the skin, cleaning out pores and removing dead skin cells, while simultaneously infusing the skin with dermaceuticals. Unlike white lead, the ingredients are scientifically tested to add moisture deep within the skin to even out texture and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Other treatments, too, take advantage of technological advancements to restore skin to its original tone and texture. IPL Photofacial is a light-based treatment that uses laser technology to reduce the appearance of age spots, sun damage, and hyperpigmentation.
What is Venus Viva?
And then there’s Venus Viva. Venus Viva is a non-invasive skin resurfacing treatment that uses NanoFractional Radio Frequency (RF) and SmartScan technology. That sounds pretty impressive, but what does the treatment look like?
Venus Viva uses a handheld device that moves along the surface of the skin, while tiny pins in the device create micro-dermal wounds allowing pathways for the NanoFractional RF to deliver energy through the epidermis to the dermis, generating heat, while stimulating fibroblasts and rebuilding collagen.
Treatments last approximately 30 minutes, and are usually repeated 3-4 times every 6 weeks. Mild redness, and swelling may occur for approximately 24 hours making this the perfect treatment for a Friday afternoon. By Monday you will be ready to go. Venus Viva is used to reduce signs of aging for a fresher, more youthful look. Benefits from Venus Viva will include a more even skin texture, the diminished appearance of deep lines and folds, a decrease in visible pore size, and a reduction in the appearance of acne scars.
Right now Esteem is offering a series of 3 discounted Venus Viva treatments for a limited time. I encourage anyone who’s considered alternative facial treatments to stop in for a free consultation, to see if Venus Viva is right for you.
