What is PDT?
PDT or photodynamic therapy has 2 components, a photosensitizer and a light. A photosensitizer is a chemical which is applied on the face, or other area where acne is a problem. The topically applied chemical solution is absorbed into sebaceous glands through the pores on the surface of the skin.
When the photosensitizing solution is then exposed to the Blu-U® blue light a chemical reaction takes place which destroys P. Acnes bacteria living in the sebaceous glands, and inactivates the sebum producing glands themselves. PDT results in a dramatic reduction in skin bacteria and oil production.
